Frequently Asked Questions about Dog Clothes

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some dog breeds need clothes?

Dogs that are sensitive to or do not stand the cold need clothing to protect them from cold temperatures.

Dog breeds that cannot stand the cold: Whippets, Greyhounds, Miniature Pinschers; Pugs; Dachshunds; Chihuahuas; Boston Terriers; Basenjis; Vizslas (German White for short).

Breeds of dogs that are sensitive to the cold: Pitbulls; French bulldogs; Boxers; Chinese Crested Dogs; Xoloitzcuintli (Xolo); Yorkshire Terriers.

Breeds of dogs that are not affected by the cold: all dogs with an undercoat layer, this layer works like a thermal blanket. So there is no need to wrap them up in the cold.

Why do dogs need breed-specific clothing?

So that the clothes are comfortable and fit the dog. The anatomy of dogs varies depending on each breed. We can classify the modeling of GP Pet Wear dog clothes into 5 groups.

Clothes for dogs: of regular anatomy; the Greyhounds family; the Bulldog family; from the Dachshund family and of Dogs of All Breeds.

Dogs with regular anatomy are those whose body length, chest circumference and arms and legs length are relatively proportional. Most breeds have regular anatomy.

Dogs with anatomy that are too different from other breeds are those of the Greyhound, Bulldog and Dachshund family.

There is also the modeling of clothes for dogs of all breeds which are clothes with many adjustments.

Dogs need breed-specific clothes because the clothes of a dog with regular anatomy will not fit a Greyhound, the clothes will be tight on the chest, wide at the waist and the back and sleeves will be short. The clothes of a Greyhound will not fit a Dachshund, the clothes will be wide on the chest, tight at the waist, short on the length and the sleeves will be extremely long. A Bulldog's clothing will never fit a Greyhound.

How to know which sizing is ideal for the dog?

Always observe the basic measurements, which are: length of the back; chest circumference and length of arms and legs if the clothing has sleeves and pants.

The clothing must be breed specific: clothes for the Greyhound family, clothes for the Dachshunds family, clothes for the Bulldog family, and clothes for breeds with regular anatomy (body length, chest perimeter length of relatively proportional arms and legs). Clothes for all breeds are those with various readjustments in length, armholes, neckline, chest perimeter and without sleeves or pants.

Always check the clothing size chart according to the breed.

What are detachable and attachable clothes for  dogs?

Are easy clothes to dress on the dog, because they do not need to move legs, arms and head. The dog does not need to go inside the clothes, the clothes dress the dog. The patent for this type of clothing belongs to the GP Pet Wear brand.

Detachable clothing is clothing that has 2 parts: one that covers the back with buttons on the shoulders and on the sides; another that covers the chest with buttons on the shoulders and on the side flaps. To assemble the clothes on the dog's body, button the buttons on the shoulders and the sides, to disassemble it, just release the buttons. Attachable clothing is the one that has quick couplings that are attached over another clothing.

Are dog clothes healthy for dogs?

Clothes are essential for: protecting them from the cold; protecting them from harmful UV rays; protecting them from rain on sunny days or cold days, and protecting from snow.

In cold clothing, the fabric that comes in contact with the hair must be made of natural fibers, because there will be prolonged contact with the fur and the natural fibers prevent the formation of static electricity, which can cause the dog to itch and it can damage the skin. Sun protection clothes are made of synthetic fibers, synthetic fabrics must be of high quality and are important for the dog’s health when exposed to the sun. Rain or snow clothes are made of synthetic fibers and should only be worn when exposed to rain or snow, when rain or snow ceases, clothes must be removed as these fabrics are not breathable. Whatever the type of protective clothing for dogs, it is important that the dog spends a few hours unclothed, as long as it is in a warm place, it is not exposed to the sun, rain or snow.

Charming and costume clothes for specific purposes, such as taking a walk on fresh mornings or afternoons, to go to a party, for Christmas or New Year's Day etc ... must be fresh and made of pure cotton or pure linen.

Do dogs need clothing with sun protection?

Yes, some dogs need it when exposed to the sun for a long period, such as dogs with light and short hair or dogs with sensitive skin. For albino dogs, clothes with sun protection are crucial. Some breeds such as Greyhounds, Dalmatians, White Boxers, Pitbulls, Bull Terriers are more vulnerable to diseases/health complications resulting from exposure to UV rays.

What are ready-to-wear (Prêt-à-Porte) tailoring clothes for dogs?

These are ready-to-wear clothes, in which the fabric is ideal for the model, provides a perfect fit; the modeling has dents, crevices, adjustments, cutouts that better adjust to the dog's body; the slit finishes are made of plackets (an opening at the upper part of the garment) or built-in pockets; the stitching margins are finished in silk bias, or French stitching is used, or clothing lined with hidden stitching margins, and among other details...

Why would dogs wear a ready-to-wear (Prêt-à-Porte) tailoring outfit?

Because they are more adjustable to the body of dogs, they are therefore more comfortable, practical to dress and elegant. Dogs should not be underdressed; after all they are our furry friends!
